Must-have Mobile Apps

Stanza
Stanza is an e-reading app that allow users to download ebooks and read directly from their iPhone. In addition to providing a great tool for downtime, Stanza also allows students to get by with carrying one less book to class.

SAT Vocab Challenge
The SAT Vocab Challenge App allows students to practice the definitions, connotations, synonyms, antonyms, and analogies of SAT vocabulary words. For the student who is serious about increasing their SAT score, this app would them to practice anywhere and everywhere. It also includes features that allow students to isolate difficult terms for more practice.

Swipe Study Flashcard
No matter what age students are, flashcards can prove to be a successful study tool. However, one of the major drawbacks to flashcards is that you have to keep them with you and keep them bundled. The Swipe Study Flashcard app allows users to take their flashcards with them anywhere. In addition, users can access their cards even when they don't have Internet capabilities.

iStudiezPro - Calendar w/ assignments, alarms
iStudiezPro has received muliple awards for its use as a student productivity app. I like its uses as a calendar where students can enter their assignments and receive alarms as warnings when deadlines are approaching.

Evernote
According to the Evernote website, the Evernote App "lets you create notes, snap photos, and record voice memos that you can then access any time from your iPhone, computer, or the web." I like that students could access all of the possibilities of Evernote while out and about. It also means that students could access Evernote from inside the classroom, which has some great potential.

iZoho
The iZoho app allows users to access the online editing abilities of the Zoho website in an easy to use format. I think it's nice that students will have the power to collaborate on group documents while outside of their traditional computer environments.

Google Mobile App
Google Mobile allows users to access several unique search features, backed by the power of Google. Users can search by voice instead of typing in a query. They can also user Google's searching power to search phone contacts and emails in addition to the Internet.

Graphing Calculator
Instead of carrying around multiple electronic devices, this application allows users to turn their iPhone into a functioning graphing calculator. While kids may not want to graph in their free time, they will have the ability to graph anywhere and everywhere - without their actual calculator.

Napkin Genius
This note-taking app allows the user to take notes through drawing or scribbling instead of traditional note-taking applications. Similarly to the way people scribble information on Napkins, I think this could be a great way for students to quickly jot down information or draw a diagram while in class.

Access My Library - School Edition
This application allows for students to access their school's online databases using their smart phones. While I'm not sure how many students will decide that they need to find peer-reviewed articles while out and about, I appreciate that the application allows access for those who may not have traditional Internet access at home.
